In today's design tips video, Kathryn describes some tricks that you and your builder can use in order to design contemporary trim work for your home. This is a great alternative to the standard molded pieces you typically see at your home improvement store.

Hi, this is Kathryn Cherne from Design Inside. I'm here to show you a couple of tips about contemporary details.One thing to think of is how to handle your trim around doors. When you think of trim, you might think of really elaborate molded pieces. But, in contemporary spaces you are executing an expression of rectilinearity and things like that. What we have done here is a little bit of a reveal here. We have a piece of wood here, and another piece of wood applied. This is a challenge and not typical for your contractor. But, believe me when its' done it will be worth it. It’s a gorgeous detail.
