Chicago Modern Farmhouse Kitchen

This couple with a baby on the way brought our team of interior designers in Chicago on board when they wanted a complete kitchen remodel for their single-family home located in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago.  When we first met, they had a small galley style kitchen with a somewhat small adjoining family room.  Instead of keeping the existing floorplan, we decided to knock down some walls and open up the space to create a larger kitchen, entryway, and craft area.

Skipping the White Cabinets

Instead of going with the standard white cabinets and white subway tile like you are seeing all over Pinterest, we decided to mix it up a bit. For this project, slightly darker cherry cabinets were selected. Creme Dekton quartz countertops offer a durable work surface while helping to brighten up the room.

Letting the Sun Shine In

In Chicago, homes typically sit on smaller lots with neighbors close by.  Luckily, the former family room (that is now the kitchen) had a large window that worked perfectly.  This window allows plenty of light into the room and will give the couple a perfect view of the backyard to keep an eye on their new child as they play outside.

An Alternative to White Subway Tile

Though we love white subway tile, it’s nice to mix it up a bit.

For this Chicago kitchen remodel, we used a soft green subway tile that coordinates with the mudroom and the inside of the glass cabinets in the peninsula.

Commercial grade stainless steel stove, refrigerator and other appliances give the kitchen a clean look.

Kitchen Accessories

Great accessories always help make a space.  This kitchen is no exception.

Happy Homeowners

The best part about being an interior designer is getting to help people improve their homes.  We were so thrilled to be able to help this amazing couple build a beautiful kitchen that will be used by their family for years to come.

Every Home Needs a Great Mudroom

By opening up the walls of the back portion of their home, we were able to create an amazing mudroom with plenty of storage.
