Contemporary Chicago Nursery For Twins

Contemporary Chicago Nursery.jpg

This couple was expecting boy/girl twins and wanted a nursery that was gender neutral but not boring.  To add to the excitement, they were moving out of their condo from the Chicago neighborhood of Logan Square and moving into a vintage farmhouse in the western suburb of La Grange.

As interior designers, we find inspiration in the strangest of places.  For the inspiration of this nursery, we got hooked on an animal theme after finding a stuffed fox at Ikea. Once we found our inspiration, we developed a design, selected all of the furniture, designed custom artwork, selected the accessories and helped to deliver and decorate the nursery.

Making a Bold Statement

To keep the nursery gender neutral, we picked a muted paint tone and selected furniture that had a rustic modern feel. We grounded the room with a large turquoise rug. To add a bold pop of color and texture, a large ceramic sheep not only makes a bold statement, but acts as a toy for toddlers to use while learning to walk (and can double as a footrest for adults).

Comfortable Seating is Key

Critical to any nursery is a comfortable rocker or recliner. We focused on finding one that was comfortable and didn’t look like the standard wood glider that you see in every nursery.

Custom Artwork to Personalize the Space

Bill created a piece of custom art featuring a fox that is the focal point of the nursery. We also found a standard nightstand that has ample storage for diaper supplies and other baby clothing.

A large metal bird sculpture offers plenty of space to showcase accessories.

White shadow boxes were used to display hospital bands and other mementos from the birth of the children for all to see instead of hiding them away in a baby book.

Why settle for a static baby monitor when you can get cameras that work in day or night and offer pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) operations so you can zoom in to see that your little one is asleep without having to get out of bed.
