How Do I Determine My Bedroom Layout?
When designing your bedroom, the layout is crucial. Before buying a single piece of furniture, take the time to draw up a floor plan and figure out the optimal layout. We have seen too may potential customers have a bed that is too large for their room. Or, maybe they selected a sleigh style headboard that pushes their bed almost 1 foot from the wall. In a tight Chicago condo or town home, every inch is critical. The floor plan will also help you determine if your space can support a dresser, night stands and a sitting area for relaxing at night.
What Color Should I Paint My Bedroom?
Selecting the appropriate bedroom paint is critical. This is supposed to be a space where you can relax and sleep in. Having the wrong color will drive you crazy. Our designers typically select soft, neutral colors. We do this for 2 reasons:
1.) Neutral paint colors are relaxing
2.) Neutral paint colors are easy to coordinate with bedding and window treatments
Pick the Window Treatments and Bedding First
If you are struggling to get started with designing your new bedroom, select the window treatments (e.g. Curtains, Panels, Roman Shades, blinds) first. Then select the bedding. The reason we recommend this is because these two items are the toughest to coordinate since there are significantly fewer options for window treatments and bedding. If you picked a unique paint color for your room, it may be tougher to find the right window treatment to coordinate. Picking the right color paint to go with a window treatment or bedding is relatively easy since paint manufacturers have thousands of colors to choose from.
