A Toilet and Shower in One. Good Idea or Bad Idea?

Toilet and Shower Combo in our hotel in Signapore

During our Fall 2011 trip to Singapore and Bangkok, our first stop was at our hotel in Singapore. Hotel 1929 is a great little boutique hotel at a great price, but one strange thing about the room is that they combined the walk-in shower and toilet to save on space.  Having yet to see an actual residence in Singapore it's hard to tell if this is an exception to interior design or if this is the norm for smaller studio apartments.

I thought about the Pros and Cons to this design. Typically, we see this type of combined space in RV’s and boats, however, I am still undecided if this is a good idea or a bad idea for a hotel room.

What are your thoughts?

Pros

  • Saves on space offering a full bathroom experience in a space that is roughly 4' x 6'

  • Easy to clean

Cons

  • Little privacy if sharing the space

  • Kind of gross

  • Toilet and toilet paper get wet (nasty!)

  • Reminds me of being on a boat or in an RV camping
