A transitional living room in Chicago gets a design makeover. We selected new furniture, paint, a fireplace, and lighting create a soothing space to relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Creating an Open and Inviting Living Room
We completely changed the floor plan to open up the space and simplify the traffic flow from the kitchen to the stairs and patio doors.
Coordinating with a Purple Couch
The home owner had recently purchased a deep purple couch. In order to make the space work with the bold color, we changed selected new paint for the living room. We also selected sophisticated furniture to coordinate with the existing purple couch; drawing in other colors to make the couch seem not so “purple”.
Fireplace Upgrade
The living room had a builder basic metal fireplace that was underwhelming. We designed a new resin fireplace mantle to replace the existing basic metal fireplace. Now, the fireplace is a focal point of the living room.
A Cozy Spot to Read a Book
To help tie the large living room space together, we decided to add a comfortable chair with ottoman near the fireplace. This offers a great spot to sit and relax while reading a great book or sipping a glass of wine.
