DIY Fixed Drapery Panels to Dress Up Your Windows

Drapes (or curtains) provide a number of benefits for your space. Not only do they offer privacy, but they also add warmth, texture, visual interest, and noise reduction. The problem is window treatments can add up quickly, becoming quite expensive, especially if you’re decorating a new home. Here are some tips for achieving a dramatic look for less.

Purchase Drapery Panels

TWOPAGES

For this project, we used standard drapery panels that can be found at most stores. We usually select panels that are “Pinch Pleat” to give it a higher end look.

Use Rounded Drapery Pins

Bali Blinds

These pins will be placed on the back of the drapery or curtain panels. Make sure to purchase enough for your project.

Hang Curtains on Rod

Rod Desyne Inc

To save on the cost of the window curtains we will install 2 shorter curtain rods on each side of the window to give the illusion that they could be closed (even though they can’t). This will add color and texture to your room.

Hey everybody, it’s Kathryn Cherne from Design Inside and we just finished installing these curtains. The important thing to know here is that these are just simple curtains that you can pick up from any home decoration store. You know, these are things that come in bags. It’s no big deal. The real trick here is to not do what’s called a rod pocket. That makes things look sort of cheap. So, what we’ve done here instead is use these drapery pins. The rounded kind. So that you can hook them over your standard cafe rod. So, let me show you a little bit about what that’s like.

If you look up here, you will see just this little cheapy Cafe Rod.  These run from $4.00 to $10.00, very inexpensive.  Then we pinned behind the curtain and just hung them up.  That’s basically it.

So, that’s a nice way to dress up a window without spending a lot of money.  It’s pretty easy to do and anyone can do it.  Ah, one thing to know for a finishing touch is; these are just a little wrinkly yet. What you can do is wait maybe a week for them to sort of, have the wrinkles fall out, cause they will.  And then, if you are not happy with how they look at that point, steam them, and then every foot or so, fold the fabric crisply and band it.  Then, wait about 3 days, then untie it.  Then you will have these beautiful these beautiful crisp folds.

So, those are just some little tips from us to you.
