The interior designer usually work closely with contractors, architects and of course the client.  The interior designer creates the clients space by applying the skills they've learned through their education and experience.  These skills deal with first figuring out the needs of the client, and coming to an agreement on the style that best fits them.  Then, applying their interior designing skills in space planning, lighting, organization and storage, scale, and lastly choosing furniture, fixtures, cabinets, fabrics and color schemes.

Contractor

The contractor is responsible for implementing the design vision created by the interior designer, architect and customer.  The skills, licenses and experience of the contractor and the sub-contractors they are going to use on your project are very important and ensures that a project runs smoothly.  Contractors are also typically responsible for alerting the client and interior designer of any design decisions that may be cost prohibitive, or difficult to execute.  Their first-hand experience with construction is extremely valuable to any project.

Client (AKA: You)

You are a critical piece of the design puzzle.  Besides the obvious role of being the home owner who wants some work done, your role is to make timely decisions about certain aspects of the project.  Without timely and firm decisions, aspects of the design and implementation of the project can change, possibly causing project delays and increased project costs.
